Budget caps....let's talk

Sorry but everyone has to work within the means . Red Bull are not short of money..they will just Alpha Tauri take the hit to make a point. How about halve Verstappen's salary?

You don't think Christian Horner crying about the budget cap is designed to take the heat of Red Bull's use of team orders do you?

To be completely fair, it isn't just Redbull who want the cap upping, it's all the top teams, as they can easily afford to spend more than it. It's just Horner is dumb/arrogant enough to willingly stick his head over the parapet to be their spokesman.

maybe. but if you cant have a season for 150m you worry about the state of F1 finances. it had to be reigned in. Red bull Ferrari & Mercedes collectively were spending a billion dollars for 1 season.

they need to live in the real world because if we talk about the 2nd tier teams because what ive heard from sky sports all of them are spending below £150m because they dont have the funds to get up to the budget. also when you look at other motorsports

WRC - 70m
WEC - 25m
Moto GP - 15m
Formula E - 13m
Indycar - 10m

One of Parkinson's laws of business states that work will always fill the time available for its completion. I. E. regardless of how small the job is, if you give someone two days to get it done, it will take two days.

The same is true of F1 spending. Teams will always spend the amount of money available to spend. There was an article in (I think) Motorsport magazine a few years ago when F1 lurched through another financial crisis. The article showed the change in budgets over the years and showed the amount of money coming in to a team. Basically, if you give a team 200 million to spend, they will spend 200 million. Give the steering wheel design team 1000 pounds to design the wheel and they will give you a £1000 steering wheel. Give them £50000 and they will give you a £50000 steering wheel. Is there any difference between the two? Probably not.

The Cosworth FVA and DFV engines were designed and introduced successfully on a budget of a shade over 1.3 million pounds in today's prices. A modern F1 engine is estimated to be 6 million pounds for 1.

He should have his head above the parapet..taking a line out if Flavio" I'll shoot him with rubber bullets then real ones" to shut him permanently

It would funny if Alpha Tauri did do better than Red Bull on a smaller budget ..but that is wishful thinking

Actually they can easily keep within the budget if they develop their cars within the budget, if they need to exceed the budget then they don't understand the reason for the budget, it is there to level the playing field, the designers make a car good or bad, the idea of throwing millions at a shit car to make it a winner wasn't the object of the exercise, neither was throwing money at a successful car to keep it winning. The object of the budget was to allow the midfield to join the money no object top three on the same budget, some will some won't, the second half of the season may be more exciting providing the budget is kept and properly scrutinised.

Rapidly increasing inflation rates since the end of 2021 have affected Formula 1 teams, and it is the opinion of the FIA and Formula 1 that this creates a risk of noncompliance with the Financial Regulations if actions are not taken.

Following consultation with the Financial Advisory Committee over recent weeks, the FIA brought a proposal to the Commission that was approved by the required majority with support from the FIA, Formula 1 and nine of the teams.

The proposal recognises the unexpected increase of costs incurred by teams in 2022 thereby permitting indexation at a limited rate of 3.1% (which takes into account the original 3% inflation threshold already set out in the regulations) and permitting compounding of this rate as from 2023. This will preserve the long-term integrity of the Financial Regulations.

could this be the latest & oddest twist. that all red bull treachery in abu dhabi, could be for nothing. & potential that max verstappen might be winning his 1st world championship for the 2nd time

More dramatic alternatives are the deduction of constructors' or drivers' championship points from the season concerned. Then there is what is clumsily defined as “suspension from 1 or more stages of a competition or competitions, excluding for the avoidance of doubt the race itself” - which effectively means being forced to miss practice sessions.

There are also 2 penalties affecting future performance rather than the past season’s results – a reduction in the team’s own cost cap for the following year and “limitations on the ability to conduct aerodynamic or other testing”. So what if a team goes over the limit by more than 5% and into the “material sporting penalty” zone?

In such a case one element of the sanction is clear – the CCAP “shall impose a constructors' championship points deduction”. Additionally it “may impose a financial penalty and/or any other material sporting penalties”. All of the penalties outlined for a minor breach remain options, with the exception of the public reprimand.

However 2 further and heavier sanctions are added to the menu, namely “suspension from an entire competition or competitions, including for the avoidance of doubt the race itself,” and most dramatically, “exclusion from the championship.”

F1Brits_90 , let's be honest, if the FIA couldn't bring themselves to reverse a flagrant breach of the rules by the Race Director in 2021 Red Bull or Aston Martin are never going to be kicked out of the either championship for spending a few million more than they were supposed to. They will be given a fine, they will pay the fine, the FIA will pretend that they have done something when, in truth, they have done nothing at all to stop it happening again, and again, and again.

One also has to ask where this will money go, like the fines the drivers are given. Did we ever get an answer when Vettel raised this question, or was it the usual platitudinous nonsense the FIA spews from every orifice?

this all is depending on if red bull are found guilty of the breaching the budget cap & if so by how much

as 2% like a team i think Williams. then it would be a minor fine. but if its over 5% then it apparently becomes major & we are in unchartered territory. depends on how big the issue is. it wouldnt be unprecedented they chucked Schumacher out in 1997
