Well, I've been sorta playing around with Photoshop a little bit and have been making some avatars. Now although I'm not very good, I would like to keep practising.

So basically if you want a custom avatar making please let me know, and give a suggestion on what you would like it based on, and I will try to design one to your liking :)

Don't feel like you have to use it after you have seen it either ;)

    Let us know.

[Note - a pinch of salt may be required to get the flavour..]

Im often accused of looking at the world with and told that a little sarcasm would do me the world of good, i'll admit i have no idea what that word means, but I challenge you to make me an avatar that fairly represents my genius, anger, grumpyness and general misery in life, the universe, and everything.

Perhaps you could also take inspiration from a great line in my life's guide book.

"In the beginning the universe was created. This made a lot of people angry and has widely been considered as a bad move."

That book wouldn't happen to have the words "Don't Panic" written in large friendly letters on the front cover and describe planet Earth as "Harmless"* would it ???

**(unless of course you have the second edition which adds the word "Mostly" to that description)

    Looking good MD.

What file types are allowed to be used for Avatars?

I know they have to be 100x100 pixels and maximum file size 20kb.

I'm assuming .jpeg and .bmp will be the standard format but will .gif be allowed as well?

Most of the files that you can upload to imageshack will be allowed, so bmp, png, jpg, gif. Amongst others :)

If you have a file of a different type, or need a file reducing in size (both dimensionally and data) just send us a link and I will do it for you.

Photoshop has a nice "save for web and devices" feature that allows you to set the compression level etc.

Haha, cheers mate. I am very low level beginner. You should see what some of the guys can do. It beggars belief - Still we all have to start somewhere ;)

Maybe if Bro lets us have small signature images in the next iteration of forum software I can do some better stuff, its hard with limited size and space ;) Hint hint ;)

It must have been some sort of mystical intuition Grizz ;) Hope you like it :D

I'm quite a dab hand with photoshop myself.

I'm thinking of creating an animated gif but not sure if it will be allowed and I will have to make sure its not flashy and disturbing on the eyes.

Lol your probably better than me then :)

animated gifs will be allowed. You may struggle keeping them under 20 kb though. Definitely won't be able to have that many frames....

    Hah! No chance :D
If there's one thing I hate it's images in sig's as it makes it very difficult to follow a thread.

The good news is though the avatar limits on the new forum software are much larger - 192 x 384 pixels so plenty of scope there for a bit of artistic flair :)

It will be a challenge but I'm only thinking of using 3 or 4 frames just add a bit of depth to my current avatar.

It might go horribly wrong and I could end up with a pixelated mess.

Is there any increase on file size?

Well the new software automatically resizes so you can click on pretty much any image and it will be resized in both pixels and bytes to fit.

For example, I can click on this image which is 1280x960 and 158KB and it uploads fine: http://www.cartoonary.com/ice-age/images/ice-age-scrat-wallpaper-1280.jpg

The drawback of that is though that animated gifs won't work as only the first frame is used.

Haha, how did I know that answer was coming LOL

I do agree though. Some people put some absolute monstrosities up ;)

Would that still be the case if automatic resizing is not need I wonder?

I've tried my little animated gif avatar, it seems to be working but is it annoying?

I'll increase the length of time each frame is on, that should make it seem less flickery.
