Thanks gethinceri , nice that you remember me being there before.

I was 7 minutes slower (on 150 km) than 3 years ago, consdering the winner was also 4 minutes slower and there seemed to be more wind, it wasn't too bad. Then I finished 161th out of 291, now 181st out of 330 (finishers). So that's pretty comparable too.

The 5th lap went pretty bad, but in the last lap I coud get the pace up again. I was completely and totally spent afterwards. I got dizzy when I got off my bike and sat down. But there were people who had it harder. In my 3rd or 4th lap on one of the steeper parts I saw someone getting off his bike on the grass, and he could barely stand on his legs and kinda tumbled to the ground. Judging his number, he subscribed for the 150 km as, but I doubt that he finished. Even in my fifth lap I overtook some riders who were doing the 75 km race. I saw the last one did it in a little over 5 hours, while I did the 150 in 5h22.

The wind made the climb to Hohe Acht a bit easier (the wind there was mostly in the back), but the descents harder, not because they went slower (on the faster bits you had the wind still mostly in the back), but because you had to be very aware with the turns. The previous times I barely had to use my brake, but with the wind there were a lot of turns where I didn't dare to go into without braking.
The stretch to the finish had a strong headwind, being in a good group was vital there.

It's a nice event to do, although in my last two laps I wasn't really enjoying it at that time.

Wombcat as ever, an awesome effort, i have only ever attacked the green hell with an engine, frlom recollection there are some fiendishly steep sections, so the times and speeds are impressive.

gethinceri one to put on the bucket list?

My first 25 Legs are you riding it?
I'm aiming at 1:05 as it's my first (even though it's down the bank) and I'm riding a sportive with my daughter on Saturday.

No mate, but I did the g-version of the course twice about 15 years ago - I think my best was long 54.

Don't take too much out of yourself on the Saturday! Good luck!

Just had a look, it appears to be a good course for your first 25. 1:05 sounds like a good target too, looking at the times for those who have competed previously.

Best of luck chap, let me know how you get on, and stay rubber side down!!

I surprised myself Legs I know I can knock some time off that next time round just by managing the effort better. Plenty of changes to make on the bike and my position as well.
