Nico Rosberg

Nico Erik Rosberg, son of Keijo "Keke" Erik Rosberg, is about to have his 100th Grand Prix meeting this weekend in Hungary.

I was about to write my "best wishes" to him in 'his' thread...but I couldn't find one...so, I figured I might as well start it off.

What is very interesting is that his father, Keke, took part in 114 Grand Prix races in his entire Formula One career, winning 5 of them - all for Williams from 1982 to 1985 - as well as a World Championship.

It's interesting in that Nico is approaching that number quickly and he's already about to finish off his 6th season in a few months...but without a win to his name...and no win in sight given the current pecking order of the cars.

Some say Nico is a great talent...while others say he hasn't fared well against quality teammates in their prime, so it's hard to judge. Mark Webber is, seemingly, his only reasonable benchmark and that was way back in his rookie season in a car that was one of the worst ones ever constructed by Williams.

What are people's thoughts on Nico Rosberg?

Regardless, Godspeed to Nico on the occassion of his 100th Grand Prix this weekend! :)

Grizzly

That's actually a rather odd statistic, as Nigel Mansell did break it, but then won the championship the following season... I believe that his figures were 28 wins before winning the championship... ;)

Yeah I know, but he did become champion ;) (as did Hill and Raikkonen who also had quite a tally of wins ahead of their respective championship years).

Given the car Nico has which is the best and he is likely to be in top 3 each race then the chances are he will beat Moss' record of most wins without a championship considering there are more grand prixs now to do it

I'm going to say no. I can't see the Merc having the dominance for longer than another 9 months and he's only won 2 races this year.

RasputinLives Its 3 races he's won this year including the gift of Monaco

I can only see Vettel challenging Mercedes supremacy as Raikkonen aint going to win another grand prix and the rest have catch up to do

I don't think Rosberg will quite suffer the thrashings Vettel gave Webber where the points gap was about 150pts

I don't see Red Bull improving suddenly because they seem to make life difficult for themselves with what they are doing at the moment

Williams just don't seem to build car fast enough to win races and both Mclaren and Lotus are further back

Nearest challengers will be Ferrari and I only see Vettel winning as Raikkonen is just a waste of space

I'm a Lewis fan through and through but if LH were to, let's say, hook up with one of the Kardashian/Jenner girls-they would suck the soul out of him and I think Rosberg could slide in for a WDC

I've been very critical of things Rosberg has said and done this season - all that stuff with Vettel and the fake press conference when he had a strop because Lewis wouldn't play - but I think he is being judged too harshly on yesterday. It came across to me that he was annoyed at himself for his mistake and if I'd made a massive error like that and someone threw a hat at me with "2nd" written on it in big letters I probably would have thrown it back too.

He embrace Lewis and said well done, he didn't spoil the party by having a go or airing his grievences on the podium, he just didn't want to party and I can see why.

Give the lad a break. We all do things we wished we hadn't when we're angry at ourselves.

Once again I can't help but draw comparisons with the Vettel / Webber team relationship. Like Webber, Rosberg had one really good chance at the title last year. Year on year now that chance will only get smaller and smaller. He finds himself stuck in exactly the same position as Webber was. He's not quite good enough to consistently beat his team mate in the best car on the grid. To move would make the chances of winning far less and to stay is beating him up.

I don't think Rosberg is capable of beating Hamilton and I think even he knows that now. Hence chucking the throwing of a hat with "2nd" on it.

You could tell Nico was absolutely gutted on Sunday, I don't think staying quiet in the background is that bad a thing. He didn't diss Lewis or refuse to go on the podium IMO he was more furious at himself for losing the race than the fact Lewis had won. If Lewis had got past during an epic battle over several corners I think Nico would have acted graciously like last year but letting someone win through your own mistake is a bitter pill to take.
By the next race he will be bouncing back again gunning for the win (if only to beat Seb).
