Pre-Season 2018-2019 Winter testing and car launches

I don’t think Kimi shows contempt for the circus of F1. He clearly dislikes the media commitment and isn’t afraid to show it, but that’s all we see. According to insiders he’s not like that away from the cameras. I think Kimi loves F1 and puts up with the media side because he has to.

Most of these guys are very well off before F1 anyway, the money is just a plus. It’s the buzz and the glory they’re after.

He left the sport because Santander practically bought Alonso a seat at Ferrari
He hates the politics... not the sport
 
Why didn't he take the McLaren seat offered him then? The party line at the time was that he was bored with F1 and wanted to go do something different like Rallying - which he did.

Simple
I've changed work professions twice in my career. From a graphic Designer to a Project Planner. After a 2 year stint I decided/realised that the thing I like most for a living, is making pretty pictures. So I went back to design.
 
But if you were set financially for life, getting towards the end of your career and they told you that they didn't want you to design websites for you international customers anymore but they were happy to move you down to do their business cards - would you

a) do it
b) go design somewhere else
c) go spend some well earned time with the fam.

I know which one I would do.

We as human beings need to find our purpose in life, a reason for being, maybe it comes from the fact I'm also a believer (in Jesus Christ). We need a reason to get our feet off the bed in the mornings... and do some work to make our lives meaningful. Sorry, I'm being personal

I tell you why I relate to Kimi's position so much...
I hate web design, all I want to do is design the front page, then pass my designs on to a web-developer. But I hate meetings and presenting my own work (the politics of the art). In all of this, I'm a designer at heart, I love the branding side of art, and painting. I'm a visualizer.

Kimi is a racer at heart. He will strive to race a formula 1 car as long as he can. It is my opinion that he will move on to managing a team (the driver side) and pass on his knowledge. He's already pouring alot of his resources into developing young drivers.

Well I guess we'll see. If what you say is true and he is a racer at heart I think I'd much rather see him racing in some other form of Motorsport at the front rather then dicking about in the F1 midfield. Go give Fernando what for in Indy Car or something.

We all know Kimi has lost some speed and edge, yet despite that... Kimi ended 3rd in the Championship last year. He has beaten Bottas (in a faster car) and won a race. And even ended up ahead of Verstappen. Remarkable consistency.

Every right to continue and finish his 2 year term at Sauber, where he can still make a meaningful contribution.
 
If Kubica is a right man for the F1, I cannot see any reason why Kimi wouldn't be. He is there contracted, and people will have to therefore deal with it, like it or not. Button wasn't ready to leave McLaren, and not too many complained about it. Ferrari didn't find that job for him at Alfa. Kimi was quite open that it was him, who approached Sauber, and they took him. I say, good for him.
 
karun has come on twitter has rejigged his tyre/fuel estimations. appartantly he missed a lap grosjean did on the final day on the C3 tyre

I was disapointed that Kimi decided at his age to move to alfa Romeo but then he not the stereotypical driver & to be fair for most of his time at Ferrari he wasnt interested in winning. so Alfa Romeo wont be any different. maybe he just enjoys driving F1 cars or maybe he wants a record on course to smash Barrichello record by 2020 Austrian GP by end of this 2yr contract he would be on 334 gps. or to be 1 of the oldest drivers in F1. if he makes it to end of his contract (in the TV era) he will be the 8th oldest driver & potienally 7th oldest point scorer

but ive also gone back to press conference in abu dhabi & this is his answers to his time at then sauber

What do you think you will enjoy most about driving for Sauber next year?

KR: Obviously I don’t know yet because… I’m pretty sure it’s a much smaller team than where I’ve been now, at Ferrari, but I’m really looking forward to it. It’s going to be different in many ways but the aim is still the same, do well in the races. I think it’s more pure racing and less the other stuff in there. Hopefully it will turn out to be good for both of us and that’s our aim. I think it’s what we can do, but obviously I might be completely wrong but we’ll find out. I have a good feeling about it and I’m excited to go there. But it’s close to my home which is obviously a bonus.

Kimi, after your long experience with Ferrari, what will be the next target for next year and the rest of your career?

KR: I haven’t really thought (about it). We’ll see once we start driving the new cars next year where we are roughly, purely by feeling and then we go from there. Obviously it’s a different challenge but I enjoy also, that’s why I (inaudible). We’ll see. If you ask many people there are lots of different opinions how it’s going to go but we’ll find out next year and we’ll do our best. I think we have a good change to do some great things. Where that’s going to take us, who knows? We’ll find out but we’ll see what happens once we start next year and then after that, I haven’t even thought about it.​

As I recall it was when he wanted to return to F1 a few years ago, I can't remember the name of the team it was with though. It didn't happen though as the team never made it to the grid.

this must have been after years of struggling. He was after the money when he went to BAR. He thought he could do the same thing Schumacher did at Ferrari but he overestimated his people skills ...

It was when he tried to drive for Stefan gp back in 2010. The FIA rejected them as a new team though. I had to look it up as I couldn't recall the details. I can't find a quote where he offered to drive for no pay, but I do remember him saying it at the time.
