I don't understand how Hamilton can have such leverage either. He got beaten by one teammate, and hasn't exactly embarrassed Bottas, whom they have obviously designated as the underling.

I can't drive at car, period. Never even had a lesson let alone passed a test, .

I passed my test back in November & i would recommed it. But weirdly watching F1 hindered me because it took me long time to get out of the habit of late braking that i so used to

Maybe it's a matter of being a four time world champion.

sure but as Siffert_fan correctly pointed out Hamilton had been beaten on track by Rosberg in 2014 until the events at Budapest-Spa-Monza where Rosberg was forced to succumb to team orders that resulted in Hamilton taking the WDC (and I believe that had the natural course of events taken place and Rosberg won the WDC that year the story of the next couple of seasons would have been very different), in 2015 Rosberg was a beaten man (and it might well be that there were team orders at play), and that's at least 2 WDC that maybe Hamilton didn't really fully deserve, after that (I quote from Il Leone who put it very nicely) he "hasn't exactly embarrassed Bottas", yes the same man that was often behind none other than Felipe Massa at Williams.

I accept that in pure driving terms Hamilton is probably the best out there, the point is that despite his talent and always having either the very best car or thereabout IMHO he hasn't really set the world on fire in pure sporting terms, he has won a lot but very often he has benefited from a big helping hand by the team, and personally I struggle to justify such helping hand, such undisputed #1 status on what Hamilton has achieved on track

Publius, you know I'm no fan of Hamilton and I totally agree with you, I don't understand why he's lauded as such a super hero of F1 either. Some of his wins have been way more luck than judgement, hell even his first title was down to bad weather and a Toyota that couldn't keep it together. (I felt so bad for Massa that day).

Given the car he's been driving he should have won those championships at Mercedes, it's been a lot faster than the rest. So yeah, I don't understand all the hype about him myself either as you know.

Bottas drives like Bottas, which isn’t quite as fast as Hamilton. There’s nothing more to it.

Angellica surely you understand the Hammy hype? I’m no fan either but his speed is undoubted, especially on a Saturday.

I do understand the hype, but I dislike him so much I choose to believe he's not that good because it suits me to ;) It's my own weird female logic LOL

No problem vintly :)

Question, why do names not come up coloured when I type them and others do? What am I doing wrong/differently?

Rosberg wasn’t much better than Schumacher in 2011 and 2012, it doesn’t really speak for Hamilton that he could only just keep Rosberg at arms length.

Unless Schumacher is the greatest of all time.

Well, it looks like Ricciardo is going to sign with Red Bull for two years. I actually think he would be better off with the 5 year contract at McLaren (if they are willing to sign so long...maybe 3 and options), then two years at Red Bull. My reasoning:

1. While he will get wins are Red Bull.....he will be the defacto the #2 driver, although they will claim otherwise.
2. When he goes job hunting in 2021....there will not be a lot of options because drivers like Hulkenburg, Perez, Ocon, Gasly and Leclerc will have filled up all positions worth having.
3. If he goes to McLaren for 5 (or 3 +2) years, he will not win any races in the next two years but.....McLaren will certainly come back to some degree, especially if the budget cap comes into place in 2021.
4. He potentially is leading a contending team in 2021-2023 under the new regulations and budget cap era. This is a good position to be in.
5. It is demoralizing to be a #2 and motivating to be a lead driver on a team.
6. He will also make more money.
7. Going to McLaren he at least has a slim chance of winning a WDC in the next five years. I don't think he has much of a chance otherwise.

But....I always have a bias towards taking the "road less traveled" as opposed to the obvious and safe option. It is how I have lead and mis-lead my life. ;)

I don't see McLaren getting anywhere near going for regular podiums in the next 5 years.
They are following the same path as Lotus and Williams... just faster.

And I'm not convinced Hulkenburg and Perez are going anywhere else except down the team rankings over the next few years. In my opinion they have both reached their natural level.
