Pre-Season 2018 Season Preview

Maybe he doesn't need to be a fireball. A pensive person who investigates and studies the data then comes up with a genius idea about reducing the aero and increasing mechanical grip would be better in my opinion than a fireball whose only idea is faster laps.

If Whitmarsh had a genius idea, and that idea had any sense, it would quickly desert him and find someone capable of delivering it with the flair it deserves.

" Don't underestimate the quiet man"...

Mmmm, didn't work out so well last time we heard that phrase.

Nevermind, I'm with Bill on this one. You need independent thinking. Hopefully he'll be heard IF he wants to move away from aero grip.

To be fair I hope Whitmarsh brings something useful to the table. But I'm still annoyed with his poor tenure at McLaren, so my trolling is completely justified.

Pfft! I doubt Whitmarsh had much to do with Lewis’ rise through the ranks, but I could be wrong. In fact it doesn’t matter how many amazing factoids that bear the supremely visionary and authoritative Whitmarsh stamp, to me he’ll always make me think of a teacher who tries really hard but just can’t get proper control of his class.

You are wrong. He was in charge of the program that Lewis came through the ranks on and had ultimate say in which formula Lewis was out into (the famous one being him standing up to Anthony Hamilton and insisting that Lewis did another year in F3 before GP2). It's very hard to doubt facts.

People forget that Whitmarsh was at Mclaren at a high senior role (doing Ron's leg work) during there most successful period. They just like to remember the period where Ron jumped out the way and let him take the flack.

Hmm, you can imagine Vettel only leaving Ferrari if they don't produce a winning car this season and there is no guarantee Merc will continue to make cars which leave all others in their wake. In fact, can we be sure Merc will continue at all after the next couple of years? I suppose it depends how Formula E goes.

interesting just saw this on the ticker on the side of the forum, which I like because at all of the European races, having to get up at 9am for practise Is tough & 11am would be much nicer

Later race start times to come in 2018? | PlanetF1

FOM are considering pushing back the start time of the vast majority of races in 2018 in a bid to improve television viewing figures. European day races usually start at 2pm local time, but Liberty are mulling over the idea of moving it to later in the afternoon to 3.10pm for the upcoming season. The proposal was reportedly discussed in a recent meeting with television broadcasters as part of a plan to shake-up the entire race weekend timetable with practice and qualifying sessions also moving back. The likes of Singapore, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi are said to be staying in their night slots.

Motorsport.com have mocked up what the new race timetable could look like should an agreement be made.

FP1: 11-12.30pm
FP2: 3pm-4:30pm
FP3: 12pm
Qualifying: 3pm
Race: 3:10pm

Force India have chnaged their name at Companies House to Force Formula One. FORCE FORMULA ONE TEAM LTD - Overview (free company information from Companies House)....

You can choose whatever name you like at Companies House as long as it does not clash with an existing company name (for the pedants I suspect that certain other names will be disallowed as well for other reasons such as obscenity). That does not mean that you can use that name as a Formula 1 team name.
