Will any LMP1 car finish?
I did get to see the superb finish to the GTE Pro class on YouTube. You have to feel for the Corvette team but then Aston Martin won so I don't feel too bad.
Was the ending to the GTE race actually Le Mans or just a Hollywood movie they shoved on for half an hour? Blimey.
Really enjoyed the 24 hour again. I will actually go to the race one day! It's on my to do list.

another great 24hr of le mans, i didnt believe it was possible to be even more dramatic than 2016 but that midnight hour was fantastic drama you couldnt go to bed in case you missed something huge. then that huge twist where i had feeling it could happen despite the 13 lap lead because all other 5 gad problems & thought it was inevitability
feel for Toyota as can imagine bosses turning up tuesday well it can only better this year as it cant possibly get worse but it did. but they did get 37pts for 2nd for championship points which is only positive they can take (i know they have 5 podiums presentations, what happened to 3rd place class trophy on LMP1 podiums if only 2 finishes)
amazing effort by lmp2 who redeemed themselves with a fantastic drive to take 2nd 3rd overall & create history by leading with an hr to go. that last lap drama kept up by gt pro great drive to keep pressure up but what looked to me like broke problem cost chevolet. but nice see Aston martin win on this cars finale. & as it turns out ford werent sandbagging. really we nearly had a British clean sweep with Jarvis Turner & Stevens. damn porsches
end of something unwittingly philosophical. that race with porsche coming back from 20 laps down is great motto for life. no matter how bleak or hopeless it seems or how you feel you have no hope, never give up hope keep plugging away. Because you never know what is around the corner

Did anyone miss Audi? Thought not. The future of LMP1 is somewhat up in the air, given VW's ongoing problems and Toyota spending huge amounts of money in order to be punched in the face repeatedly year after year - in fact decade after decade. So if this was the end of an era, what a way to go.
Toyota were expected to walk it, so credit to Porsche and the all-star #1 crew of Lotterer, Jani and Tandy for never giving them space to relax. Thomas Laurent drove with astonishing maturity in the #38 LMP2 winning car, putting other teenagers (hi Max, hello Lance) to shame with his calmness and compusure in heavier traffic than an F1 driver will experience in a whole season. A bright future for that boy.

They didn't. The World Endurance Championship is open to LMP1 and LMP2 cars, so they score points for their 7th position overall.
The third placed Rebellion car has been DSQ'd 24 Hours of Le Mans 2017 - The #13 Vaillante Rebellion disqualified

Despite the excitement and drama, LMP1, the premier class, must have more entries at the main event of the year. There could have been no LMP1 finishers which would have been odd.

i was going off eurosport in closing stages as they were saying they get 37 (pole - 1pt & 2nd 18 x 2)

I thought the Eurosport made a total hash of explaining the points-escoring system, the subteties of which they were clearly unaware of. There is no such thing as an "LMP1" championship. The premier class is just called the manufacturers' WEC is based on overall classification.
Toyota score 5 points at Le Mans, 4 for for its race result and one for its pole.Which is bound to increase slightly now that the Rebellion has been disqualified.

I'm not sure anyone at Eurosport even watches the rest of the WEC.
A couple of interesting announcements from North America in the last few weeks.
Honda will join Cadillac, Nissan and Mazda in the IMSA championship next season, with a DPi prototype run by America's greatest team, Penske.
And then this week it was revealed that the world's greatest sportscar team, Joest Racing, will take over the Mazda programme in IMSA for 2018.
If LMP1 continues to struggle, this category could become of interest to the ACO...
