Things ... Musical chairs (2017-2018 Silly Season)

Seems strange. I'm not suggesting he'd get a top drive but nothing is certain with seats at Mercedes or Ferrari going in to the end of this season. Plus there are a number of opportunities in the middle of the pack.

It would be a mistake to blink too soon.

I'm very cynical about there being drives available at Merc and Ferrari at the end of the season. I think both teams have the number 2s they need right now.

I agree to a point RasputinLives, and I think both those number 2s have the team they need right now too. But I am holding out some hope that the number 1s might be leaving. If Vettel wins the WDC, then both he and Hammy will have multiple titles with two different teams. Would Vettel consider leaving the Scuderia to try and get a fifth WDC with a third team perchance? Would Hammy have had enough at Merc with no WDC to show for the last two seasons? Might there be potential for a swap?

I'm convinced as you know that Hammy will one day drive for Ferrari, and who wouldn't want Vettel, especially Mercedes?

If it doesn't happen this year for contractual or other reasons it might next year.

:p I'm pretty sure I predicted him to stay last year. Actually I might be thinking of Massa.

As for your stat. Merc have only had 4

RasputinLives The rumours about Perez does not make sense given he rejected them because he thought they lacked leadership last year and he will go up against Hulkenberg again which is pointless given he has beaten him already 2-1 as teammates

The rumours were from French media but surely Renault are not going to rely on drivers who have a bit of sponsorship money to fund the F1 team???

----------------------------------------------------------------

the only reason Mercedes will look to replace their drivers is if they don't win the constructors title .

Ferrari - they can with the same pairing again but with the key of drivers they have waiting in the wings is it not time to change and freshen up things. For a start any of Kimi's replacements will be cheaper in terms of salary and apart from Grosjean they are very young to be Ferrari's future
-------------------------------------------------------------

Alonso has now said he will not rule out joining any other team except Red Bull...

So silly season might well rest on who Vettel/ Alonso drive for next season?

So I'm starting to think we won't have Alonso in F1 next year and that Mclaren, rather than trying to tempt an experienced driver, might just try and roll a double six and shove Lando Norris in. That would be fun. Norris would need to win F3 this year though.

As for Ferrari. I can see them taking on Giovanazzi as a Massa type but I think they would want him to have a bit more experience. They have Charles LeClerc in their stable but again they'd want a couple of years in the midfield before they took him. If they Weren't expecting to re-sign Kimi they would have placed at least one of them in a drive this year.

So if Giovanazzi suddenly appears at Haas or Sauber for the rest of the season you'll know why!

Why would he need to win F3? In terms of license points a 3rd place in F3 would be sufficient.

Fernando was also quoted recently as saying he will retire if Liberty Media put together a 25 race calender for 2018. I might be tempted to retire from watching the sport, 25 races is simply too much.

I'm confused by anyone not wanting more races. The off-season is a third of a year - what other sport leaves fans hanging for that long?? Regardless of the logistics of having more races and whether it's possible, I would prefer to have one every week, except perhaps Christmas.

Which is why the FIA should be doing their best to harmonise the F1, Formula E and WEC calendars (see one page ago). The Premier League isn't every week all year, but football is.
