And the costume doesn't take too long to make...

Well, I've got three Mandalorian costumes, and each one took around three months to construct the 'first draft'. All of them were club approved at that stage, but have since gone back for tweaks and refits, and probably have about a year of work total into each one. Not really a quick hobby. It's kind of like scratchbuilding an action figure or model kit.

Isn't that what George Lucas did to get the film made? Waived his directors fee but took control of the merchanising rights. Wonder how many people got fired at fox for that move.

Yeah, I think that's what he did. I think Alec Guiness got 2% of the Merchandise / Gross money. I think it helped to make them both very rich men.
